Why should an artist rely on your services?
Gentilissima Manu, operi nel settore musicale da molti anni. Nasci come cantante, musicista oppure come attrice?
Dispiace deluderti, ma sono stonata come una campana, non so suonare neanche il triangolo, e come attrice, il massimo delle mie performance, è stata, alla tenera età di 6 anni, la recita della poesia di Natale davanti al pubblico composto da mamma, papà e nonna Palmira.
Ma fin da bimbetta, sono sempre stata affascinata dalla musica, dalla danza, dal teatro e in generale, dall’arte, in tutte le sue forme.
E poi, la vita, che è meravigliosamente sorprendente, magicamente, mi ha avvicinata a questo mondo …
Perché hai deciso di specializzarti in diritti connessi?
Nel 1998, per fortuite coincidenze, mi ritrovai a lavorare in Altavox, ditta di produzioni musicali di Emanuele Ruffinengo e di Elena Roggero.
Questa esperienza mi cambiò letteralmente la vita.
Conobbi e diventai amica di molti musicisti professionisti.
Emanuele divenne il mio mentore nel campo dei diritti d’interpretazione ed esecuzione. Mi istruì a dovere.
In quegli anni, in Italia, questi diritti, soprattutto per i musicisti esecutori (nella terminologia dei diritti connessi, i cosiddetti comprimari) erano diritti che non venivano mai pagati … nonostante fossero dovuti per legge.
Vivevamo un periodo di inefficienza davvero scandalosa.
Quando, poi, realizzai che il diritto d’autore, fa parte dei diritti umani e che i diritti connessi, altro non sono che i suoi “cugini”, decisi di prendermi la responsabilità di aiutare concretamente i miei amici musicisti, e i loro amici musicisti.
E, soprattutto decisi che, da quel 1998, mi sarei prodigata ad approfondire la conoscenza, ad accrescere il mio know-how, per far si che i diritti arrivassero, letteralmente, nelle tasche dei musicisti.
Dopo anni di esperienza nel campo della musica, da qualche anno, ho ampliato il raggio ed ora, con molto orgoglio, aiuto anche i miei amici attori.
Inoltre, proprio in questo periodo, sto ampliando la mia attività in un altro settore, sempre dei diritti connessi, che vi annuncerò, non appena sarà una realtà.

In verità, no.
Finora è stato tutto un passaparola.
Solitamente tutto partiva da quel musicista, che, soddisfatto dei propri diritti recuperati, mi chiedeva se poteva fare il mio nome ad altri amici musicisti.
Lo stesso sta succedendo tutt’oggi, con musicisti e attori,
anche dall’altra parte dell’oceano.
Perché un artista dovrebbe affidarsi ai tuoi servizi?
Perché l’artista deve fare l’artista e non il burocrate.
Ed io mi occupo di fare tutto ciò che gli porterebbe via tempo prezioso.
Per esempio, per evitare di far compilare moduli “noiosissimi” ad un musicista/attore, sono disposta ad andare al suo concerti o spettacolo, giusto per una firma. Lui è contento, ed io di più !
Sicchè. … è un duro lavoro, ma qualcuno dovrà ben farlo :)
E, come ciliegia finale di questa intervista, ti faccio una confidenza, ma non dirlo a nessuno : il mio lavoro è come un bellissimo gioco, tutto inventato da me, ed io mi diverto un mondo !

Manu, you have been operating in the music industry for many years. Are you born as a singer, musician or as an actress?
I hate to disappoint you, but I'm out of tune like a bell, I can't even play the triangle, and as an actress, the best of my performances, was, at the tender age of 6, the recitation of a Christmas poetry in front of the audience composed of mom, dad and grandmother Palmira.
But, since I was a little girls, I've always been fascinated by music, dance, theatre and in general, art, in all its forms. And then, life, which is wonderfully surprising, magically, brought me closer to this world...
Why did you decide to specialize in Neighbouring Rights?
In 1998, for fortuitous coincidences, I found myself working at Altavox, a musical production company of Emanuele Ruffinengo and Elena Roggero.
This experience literally changed my life.
I met and became friends with many professional musicians.
Emanuele became my mentor in the field of Neighbouring Rights. He properly instructed me.
In those years, in Italy, these Neighbouring Rights, especially for performer (in the terminology of Neighbouring Rights, the so-called “co-performer”) were rights which were never paid… despite the fact that they were due by law.
We were living through a period of really scandalous inefficiency.
When then I realized that copyright is part of human rights and that Neighbouring Rights are nothing more than its 'cousins', I decided to take responsibility for actually helping my musician friends, and their musician friends.
And, above all, I decided that, from that 1998, I would do my best to deepen my knowledge, to increase my know-how, so that the Neighbouring Rights would literally reach the pockets of musicians.
After years of experience in the field of music, for some years I have widened my scope and now, with great pride, I also help my fellow actors.
Furthermore, exactly this time, I am expanding my activity in another field, always about Neighbouring Rights, which I will announce to you, as soon as it becomes a reality.

Actually, no. So far, it's all been word of mouth.
Usually everything started with that musician, who, satisfied with his recovered rights, asked me if he could mention my name to some other musician friends.
The same is happening today, with musicians and actors, even on the other side of the ocean.
Why should an artist rely on your services?
Because the artist has to be an artist and not a red-tapist. And I do everything that would take away valuable time.
For example, to avoid I a musician/actor filling out "boring" forms, I'm willing to go to his concerts or show, just for a signature. He's happy, and I’m happier!
So,... it's hard work, but somebody’s gonna have to do it :)
And, as the cherry on the cake of this interview, I make you a confidence, but do not tell anyone : my work is like a beautiful game, all made up by me, and I’m having a great time!
